“Super 8″ Viral Hits The Physical World

SlashFilm reports that their headquarters received a mysterious "Super 8" film package in the mail.

Today /Film HQ received a small unmarked envelope containing an old box of for a Kodak Super 8 cartridge (Type A). Must be some creepy viral for the Steven Spielberg-produced JJ Abrams-directed film Super 8. Makes sense, right? So…. inside the box was, as expected, a reel of Super 8 film. And…

The 8mm film on the reel had been developed/printed. It begins with a missing placeholder card, and then shows a dozen or so scientist-looking people in a room. Thankfully the box also contained a small little flash drive with the Super 8 logo (I guess, in case I had not yet figured it out…). On the drive is a digital version of this small black and white clip. You can watch it now embedded below:

I’m not sure what it means. I’m sure the other footage to complete this is out there somewhere. My file is named, so maybe I have the 46th piece of the puzzle? Or maybe that has nothing to do with anything? What do you think?

The package also contained the following card:

I have already sent an e-mail with the unlock code so you don’t have to. The e-mail has yet to trigger a response, I’m sure other codes must be sent before the “advanced look” can be unlocked.

Meet the Kids in First Official 'Super 8' Image

From BD Horror:

As part of their summer preview, Paramount Pictures has provided Bloody Disgusting with the first official still from Super 8, a Bad Robot/Amblin Entertainment Production that teams writer/director J.J. Abrams with the legendary Steven Spielberg. ...

Below you'll find the first ever image featuring (from left to right) Elle Fanning as "Alice Dainard" and Joel Courtney as "Joe". The poor kid in the background doesn't get a credit. I'd also like to note that there's "something" in the lens. Can anyone make out what it is?

Composer Michael Giacchino Talks "Super 8"

Collider has an interview with "Super 8" composer Michael Giacchino:

Collider: How far along are you on Super 8? The trailer seems like it has a very Amblin/ 70’s 80’s Spielberg vibe to it, does the score echo that sentiment?

Giacchino: I’m going for ultimately what works for the film. There are shades of that for sure in the score. I’ve pretty much written probably 90% of the score at this point. And then I’ve gotta go and record Cars 2 on Saturday, finish up all that for a week, and then I’ll go back to Super 8 and then in three weeks I’ll record that. So it’s been a crazy schedule for the last couple months, but yeah I’m excited about that one, that’s gonna be a really fun thing. I’m in a position where I get to go make something with my friends. Me and J.J. [Abrams] it’s like, the kid who lives next door, “Okay let’s go do this, that’d be cool wouldn’t it? Yeah that’d be fun!”
